Volunteers have long been our vital backbone in bringing life-transforming Wish Journeys to children with critical illnesses.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Make-A-Wish Hong Kong and helping children with critical illnesses. By becoming a volunteer and a member of Wish Community of the world’s largest wish-granting organization, not only will you contribute your valuable time and talents to bring children unforgettable memories; the experience of making a difference in their lives is profoundly rewarding. Our volunteer services include:

Visits: Engage with child patients and wish children at online or in-person visits

Volunteer Role

  • You will partner with our Wish Team and/or other volunteers to lead games, handicrafts or storytelling with child patients staying at hospital; or conduct Wish Catching with Wish Children

Target Volunteers and Remarks:

  • aged 18 or above
  • Able to volunteer on weekdays (at least 2 hours per session; long-term support are welcome)
  • Spoken language: Cantonese (preferred), Mandarin and/or English. (Note: some service beneficiaries are Mandarin or English speakers)
  • Enjoy interacting with children and youth; preferably energetic, and good at creating fun and positive vibes
  • Positive, empathetic, and good at listening
  • Experience leading activities for children in online or face-to-face setting is a plus
    Note: Visits are mostly carried out via online meetings. Upon resumption of face-to-face volunteer service at hospitals, all volunteers taking part in visits with child patients at hospital must register as volunteer of Hong Kong Hospital Authority via MAW and fulfil relevant training and vaccination requirements.
Wish and Hospital Services Support: Assist in design & preparation of wishes and activities for child patients

Volunteer Role

  • Assist Wish Team to design Wishes, prepare gifts and program materials, design handicrafts or games, and provide administrative or technical support

Target Volunteers and Remarks:

  • Able to volunteer on weekdays (at least 2 hours per session; long-term support are welcome)
  • Attentive to details, creative
  • Interest in or good at handicrafts, drawing or design is a plus
Event Support: Assist in children’s activities and fundraising events

Volunteer Role

  • Provide support on preparation and implementation of children’s activities or fundraising events, including materials preparation, administrative or on-site event support

Target Volunteers and Remarks:

  • Time commitment is subject to event needs
  • Experience in event support is a plus
Office Support: Assist in general office work

Volunteer Role

  • Assist Make-A-Wish staff on miscellaneous office tasks including taking phone calls, filing and mailings, data entry, etc

Target Volunteers and Remarks:

  • Flexible service time (within office hours on weekdays)
  • Attentive to details and patient
Skill-based Volunteer: Contribute your specialized skills and expertise to help enhance our service quality

Volunteer Role

  • Contribute your professional knowledge, expertise and specialized skills in one-off or ongoing projects to help enhance our service quality and development. This includes translation, copywriting, graphic design, photography, video production and more.
Volunteer Wish Granter: Create life-changing Wish Journeys for Wish Children starting from Wish Catching

**If you are willing to volunteer on a long-term basis and commit at least one year of service for wish children …

Volunteer Role

  • You will partner with our Wish Team and/or other Volunteer Wish Granters to take on the entire Wish Journey (typically 3 to 9 months) and follow through from Wish Catching to realization of the Wish, to create life-changing
  • Wish Journeys for Wish Children
    Maintain regular and good communication with Wish Families and Wish Team throughout

Time Commitment and Requirements of Volunteer Wish Granters:

  • aged 21 or above
  • completed specified visits and wish services support
  • successfully completed the training and interview for Volunteer Wish Granters
  • committed to volunteer for at least 1 year, and take on at least 2 Wishes in a year

What we look for in Volunteers:

  • Spoken language: Cantonese (preferred), Mandarin or English. (Note: some service beneficiaries are Mandarin or English speakers)
  • Able to volunteer on weekdays (visits and Wish Days primarily happen on weekdays)
  • Enjoy interacting with children and youth
  • Familiar with popular culture among children/youth; or experience of visits or working with children/youth would be an advantage
  • Responsible, positive, empathetic, good at listening, collaborative
  • Creative, well-organized; able to handle Wish Day arrangement and simple administrative paperwork properly

We will provide regular trainings and gatherings for Volunteer Wish Granters to share and learn together.
