Policy Donation
For any policyholder holding a valid life insurance policy under the Insurance Ordinance (Cap. 41), he/she is eligible to join the scheme by voluntarily adding a charity or more as their policy beneficiary, during the valid period of the policy.
Policy Giving aims to provide an opportunity for policyholders to leave a legacy for the broader society, therefore it might lead to a small percentage change in the coverage for the original beneficiaries. We recommend giving 1-5% of the original coverage to charity. Every donation helps.
After the approval of the Letter of Wish in Change of Policy Beneficiary, the charity will be officially one of the designated beneficiaries of the stated life insurance policy. Since all life insurance has legal force, when the death certificate and related documents are confirmed, the insurance company will be able to donate the designated policy amount to the designated beneficiaries, including charities.
To advocate for Policy Donation, we encourage all Lifecare Ambassadors to connect with all policy donors. Once the change of designated beneficiary is updated, we encourage donors to fill in the “PDP Letter for Wish” for the following 2 reasons:
If the donor decided to change any arrangements on donation e.g. cancelling the donation, or changing the designated charity, you are simply fill in the “Change of Policy Beneficiary”, and inform your insurance company. There is no limit on the number of amendments and percentage of each beneficiary.

Other
Yes.
No, this is not possible. Most life insurance policies already require beneficiaries to be designated at the time of application, so they are not considered part of the estate and cannot be distributed through a will. We recommend using our Life Insurance Donation Programme to make a life insurance gift instead.
