Mission

Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses

To grant the wish of every eligible child

Make-A-Wish Hong Kong was registered in Hong Kong as a charity (registration number: 91/5366) in 1998 and became a member of Make-A-Wish Foundation International, the world’s largest wish-granting organization with 40 affiliates serving over 50 countries and territories nowadays. Collectively we have realized more than 500,000 wishes worldwide since 1980.

Our mission is to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses aged between 3 and 17, in Hong Kong and Macau, to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

A wish creates an opportunity for hope and the ability to experience life beyond illness. Serving as a supplement to medical treatment and complement one another as acknowledged by healthcare professionals, we believe that a Wish Journey – through which a child articulates, refines and realizes his/her wish – will bring a transformative impact not just to the child concerned, but also to the child’s family as they tackle some of their most difficult trials in life. To date, Make-A-Wish Hong Kong has transformed over 2,200 children’s lives. We are dedicated to making every eligible child’s wish come true.

What We Do

「A wish is more than just a nice thing」

We are on a quest to grant one true wish to every eligible child. Serving as a supplement to medical treatment and complement one another as acknowledged by health care professionals, we believe that a Wish Journey transforms a child and his/her family’s lives during some of their most difficult trials – as a wish creates an opportunity for hope and the ability to experience life beyond illness.

Five types of wishes create beautiful Wish Stories

  • I wish to meet…
  • I wish to go…
  • I wish to be…
  • I wish to have…
  • I wish to give…

Our Story (MAWI)

One wish that creates a movement of transforming millions of lives

Headquartered in the United States, Make-A-Wish is the world’s largest wish-granting organization and have 41 affiliates serving over 50 countries and territories. These were all inspired by one wish. In 1980, 7-year-old Christopher James Greicius, afflicted with leukemia, wished to be police officer for a day. As a result of several caring individuals, the officers of the Public Security Department of the State of Arizona helped make his wish come true on 29 April 1980. The little boy was given his very own police uniform and badge and got to ride in the police car, as well as circle around the town in a helicopter.

Those who helped make the boy’s wish come true hoped that other children with critical illnesses could also experience life-changing moments. And so they set up Make-A-Wish. Their conviction in helping the critically ill feel better, gradually gained positive feedback from other countries around the world. Since 1998, Make-A-Wish International has dedicated April 29 as the World Wish Day. Make-A-Wish can now be found in more than 50 countries and territories around the world.
